The second major factor of unity within a church is being able to work in harmony with one another. The purpose of our constitution is to lay out the organization and operation of the church. The GBC Constitution has been and can be changed in order to improve effectiveness, efficiency and bring practice into greater alignment with doctrine. It is a document meant to help, not hinder our ministries.
Grace Bible Church is an Elder led church assisted by Deacons and Deaconesses with the later two offices being servants to the church and helpers to the Elders. Specific duties of Deacons and Deaconesses are defined by the Elders in policies established for them. Since a healthy church requires leadership that is godly and Biblically qualified, the GBC constitution has many requirements that must be met to become a church officer, and it has several methods by which a church officer that becomes Biblically unqualified may be corrected or removed including an Annual Review by the Elders and a yearly Reaffirmation by the congregation (Article VI, Section C, 4). (Please note that this section has been used here for the last 28 years and has proven to be very effective in correcting problems before or soon after they develop. This has prevented schisms and increased the unity and therefore the stability of the church).
(Please also note that we apply the title “Pastor” only to a man that is ordained. If the man coming to fulfill that role has not already been ordained, a first priority placed upon him will to complete those requirements as set forth in the GBC Constitution and Elder Policy. Adequate time would be given to him for preparation. He would be given the title, “Minister” until he has met the same qualifications as the existing Elders and is ordained).
